At the root of this recipe is the Spanish word “empanar” which literally means “to wrap or coat in bread”. Although famous in Latin America, the empanadas first appeared in Portugal in the 15th century when the Portuguese had a trading route with India. However, it’s in the northern Spanish province of Galicia that they become famous and subsequently find their way into what became Latin America.
Empanadas are made by folding dough over a stuffing, which may consist of meat, cheese, fish, peppers, among other ingredients depending on the country they come from.
Vilamor Cafe is giving you the opportunity to taste a bit of Latin America with our specialty empanadas.
